D (aka Doris Haddock) is a 96-year old catalyst for campaign finance
reform. She became a national heroine when she completed her
3,200-mile, 14-month walk

2003 and 2004, Granny D embarked on a 23,000 mile tour of the "swing
states,"
encouraging women and the residents of poor neighborhoods to register
to vote. She

2004 she ran a grassroots campaign for the US Senate and got 34% of the
vote in
New Hampshire while refusing to take special interest money. When the
red state of
New Hampshire turned blue in 2004 by a mere 9,000 votes, her campaign
was given
a share of the credit. The Nation magazine called it "one of the most
provocative and
inspired candidacies this country has seen in years."</span></span></p>
